STORY COMPLETION METHODS IN DIFFERENT FAMILY TYPES AND IN LEGAL CONTEXTS

When child reaches pre-school age, one of the most effective methods to investigate attachment representation is story completion, as it allows to explore child’s internal relational world.

The lesson introduces these evaluation methods for children aging between 4 and 8 years, named as Story Stem Techniques. Among these procedures the most famous and internationally used is the Manchester Child Attachment Story Task. Specifically, the conduction process will be detailly explained. Coding guidelines and clinical example will also clarify the method, considering traumatic experiences and generational attachment transmission in different high and low risk developmental contexts.

The course is addressed to students and professionals operating in family services, minors’ protection, family mediation, adoption. Professionals working with mothers and children will find a useful instrument to analyze dyadic relationship between parent and child in the first two years of life.
